Morris: Mortality Rate

An isometric dungeon crawler shoot 'em up game all about strategic decision making and fast paced gunplay. Take control of the teddy bear Morris and battle your way through a huge factory by surviving through a sprawling series of rooms filled with dangerous robot enemies. Improve your arsenal of weapons and your physical attributes along the way to aid you in your battle against the evil AI terrorizing humanity.

AI & Behavior

The Majority of my work on Morris was on the games enemies. The enemies consists of three different AI characters visualized below:

  • Ranger bot

  • Laser bot

  • Boom bot

Some of the specifics i worked on are:

  • Spawning system for items such as loot chests

  • Spawning system for store

  • Player upgrade system

  • Player Powerups

Final Thoughts

I am really proud of this project because, despite it being my first serious game project with a group of practically strangers and it being my and many others first time in unreal, we managed to create a good game in only 6 weeks.

I am especially proud of the teamwork that went into this project especially with the artist Oscar who created the animations and effects for both the player and enemies. We worked together to give more life to the enemies in the game by iterating on the robots attacks and omni directional movement. A good example of this is the Ranger bots attack that started as a single bolt but changed to a tre bolt attack.

All in all it was a really fun project where i learned a lot.
